• Location - Greater Sydney Metropolitan Area• Temporary Full Time for up to 12 months with possibility of conversion to ongoing• Salary - $129,331 - $139,787 + Super and Annual Leave Loading Your role The primary purpose of the role is to undertake mediation and conciliation conferences in the care and protection jurisdiction of the Children's Court.You will conduct call-overs and determine other procedural applications in the Court's care and protection jurisdiction.Roles area based at either the Surry Hills Children's Court or Parramatta Children's Court. What you'll do Undertake mediation and conciliation conferences to ensure that disadvantaged families are better able to participate in court proceedings and decisions relating to their children.Exercise the quasi-legal functions of a Children's Registrar in accordance with relevant legislation, court rules and directions of the President of the Children's Court including the conduct of call-overs.Work collaboratively with judicial officers, the Senior Children's Registrar, and other Children's Registrars to assist the Children's Court to manage its caseload effectively.You will also contribute to practice improvement, policy reform and education for a range of stakeholders. What we're looking for• Legal qualifications and extensive post admission experience as a lawyer in NSW in the care and protection and/ or criminal jurisdiction • Ability to preside in Court and make decisions on procedural issues in accordance with the law and the practice of the Children's Court• Proven experience and training in the conduct of alternative dispute resolution conference and mediation with ability to conduct conciliation and mediation conferences and manage inherent power imbalances between the parties.• Sound knowledge and understanding of the Children's Court jurisdiction including a thorough understanding of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998, legislation relating to the Children's Court's criminal, compulsory schooling and apprehended violence jurisdictions;• We strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply.
