About the opportunity

There is currently one (1) permanent – full time position available for immediate filling.

DPIRD's drone capability operates across a variety of operational areas, from cutting edge primary industries research and supporting law enforcement operations, to educational and promotional purposes. Our capability is growing all the time, and we are looking for the right person to grow with us and shape the future of remote piloted aircraft operations at DPIRD. As the Chief Remote Pilot, you will oversee DPIRD's remote pilot training and standards, as well as represent the Department in dealings with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority relating to obligations arising from the Remote Operators Certificate and Manual of Operations. You will also ensure that pilots and aircrafts are compliant and operating safely.

Join our team as the Chief Remote Pilot, and play a critical role in developing and implementing strategies for remotely piloted aircraft operations at DPIRD, in alignment with the Civil Aviation Act 1988 and associated regulations.

Ideal candidates will have:
Experience in overseeing and managing remotely piloted aircrafts in a large organisation and geographically dispersed environment.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in establishing and maintaining training programs.
Good knowledge, experience and a clear understanding of flight operations of commercial drones weighing more than 2kg, and you'll demonstrate this with logged flight experience.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and operations undertaken by DPIRD, including certificate qualifications in investigations and/or possession of relevant experience.
Highly developed analytical skills, with the ability to provide innovative solutions to complex issues that may arise.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.

You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to appointment at applicant's expense.

This process may be used to fill other same/similar fixed term, permanent, vacancies that arise in DPIRD at locations listed in this advert. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position, the panel may select another suitable applicant from this selection process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the approval of the initial recruitment decision.
