As Westpac's Chief Engineer – Westpac One Core, you will be responsible for leading the technology strategy, design and development of transaction banking and payments systems and solutions for Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB).
You will play a critical role in ensuring that these platforms are secure and aligned with the business objectives.
This role requires a strong technical leader who can drive innovation, manage complex projects, and collaborate across multiple Lines of Business.
The Chief Engineer – Westpac One Core is the technology owner for the platforms unique to Westpac One Core, the people leader for the engineers and other IT professionals working to deliver the program, and a key leader to drive and guide delivery to the desired outcomes across this significant, multi-year, multi-stream strategic program.
A major program, Westpac One Core (W1C) will transform Global Transactional Services (GTS) into a modern digital transaction bank that is profitable, sustainable, meets customer and market expectations and ensures Westpac remains competitive.
The program is building out existing cloud-native, new cloud-deployed platforms, and leveraging strategic capabilities across Westpac to create the customer and product proposition.
The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in software engineering and payments within the financial services industry.
They must already be at Head of/Chief level, currently leading engineering teams and leading large scale technology programs.
Key responsibilities will include: Oversee the architecture, development, and deployment of the Westpac One Core solutions, ensuring they meet performance, security, and compliance standards.Build, lead, develop and grow a high performing engineering team.Develop and lead the technical strategy for Westpac One Core, ensuring alignment with business goals and industry.Platform ownership.
Primary technology engagement and escalation point for the Westpac One Core platforms.Ensure business needs and proposed outcomes are traceable through the design process through active discussion and challenge where required.Support the monitoring, reporting and escalation of risks and issues and/or problems associated with services and/or delivery.Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders (Product, Operations, Risk, Compliance) and vendors to ensure a seamless, efficient integration.Engage, inform, influence, and negotiate with stakeholders (across the value chain), to ensure they remain engaged and committed throughout program delivery.What do I need?
10+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on payments or financial technology.Proven track record of leading engineering teams, managing large and complex projects, and delivering high performance financial systems.Strong understanding of API development, cloud computing (AWS, Azure), microservices architecture, and real time processing.Supplier Relationship Management and managing external vendors to successful outcomes.Strong stakeholder management skills to senior GM and Executive stakeholders.Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.Knowledge of data security protocols and risk management frameworks.Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements for payments systems.Developing and delivering on complex architectures.How do I apply?
