Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Certified Nursing Assistant assists the licensed nurses in contributing to the delivery of quality nursing care by engaging in nursing care and activities of daily living within the scope of practice defined by the Texas Department of Health. The Certified Nursing Assistant is assigned to specific or groups of specific patients and unit-based tasks which contribute to the nursing process; facilitates the gathering and documentation of specific data; and augments collaboration with and delivery of quality care with licensed health care team members.
Job Specific: Collaborates with each patient's nurse on the plan of care for assigned patients during the given shift.Provides ADLs, promotes mobility, and assists with nutritional needs per unit routine under the direction of the licensed nurse.Promotes skin care, nutrition/hydration, and decubitus prevention.Observes patient progress and changes in patient status and reports significant changes to the licensed nurse on a timely basis.Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges within guidelines and policies of Citizens Medical Center.Participates in development of self and skills to enhance patient-focused care.Uses authorized equipment within scope of practice to gather and document data on stable, established patients.Accurately records vital signs, weights, and completion of ADLs in the medical record.Reports significant and/or abnormal values to the licensed nurse on a timely basis.Actively participates in the unit's performance improvement initiatives.Assists in meeting basic needs for patients in restraints on a regular basis.Performs patient care and duties with emphasis on patient rights, patient confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, and adaption of care according to age and cultural or ethical considerations.Facilitates maintenance of equipment by completing maintenance requests.Demonstrates Service Excellence Initiatives by presenting a positive first impression; anticipates customer needs, and is actively involved in the role of team player.Follows universal precautions.Complies with Employee Health requirements for employment.Works in a manner that promotes safety, adhering to the dress code policy.Knows role in emergency situations and reports unsafe practices to management.Hospital: Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics, Compliance, and Confidentiality Program guidelines.Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.Other Duties As Assigned: Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.Completion of State of Texas approved nursing assistant course.Current Texas Department of Health certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant, or if a recent graduate from an approved Nursing Assistant course, employee may have up to 90 days to obtain certification.BLS certification.COMPANY PROFILE Citizens Medical Center is a not-for-profit, community hospital known for compassionate patient care, clinical expertise, and bringing advanced medical services to the South Texas region since 1956.
