About the opportunity

We are currently looking to build a casual pool of Financial Counsellors to work on the National Debt Helpline service, facilitated in NSW by Uniting. This role has a specific focus on providing information, options and advocacy for individuals and families who are experiencing financial problems and are at risk or are unable to pay their bills. Financial Counsellors will triage, assess, explore, develop and implement strategies for addressing financial and debt issues for those individuals who access the service and reside in NSW. As a NDH Financial Counsellor you will provide a free, independent and confidential phone service that informs people of their rights and responsibilities and provides options regarding credit and debt issues to help them get back on track.

Key Responsibilities:

Working on our telephone service you will take incoming calls made to the National Debt Helpline, assess each call to determine service eligibility and develop and evaluate intervention plans in consultation with clients.
Provide financial counselling to individuals aimed at improving financial affairs and reducing the likelihood of ongoing financial crisis.
Maintain comprehensive, professional up to date client records.
Ensure thorough case work planning through effective assessment and referral and the provision of advocacy and negotiation on the client's behalf with credit providers as required.
About You
You must hold a Diploma in Financial Counselling and hold a current membership to the Financial Counsellors Association of NSW.
You will hold at least 2 years of experience working in a Financial Counselling role.
Have extensive knowledge of debt legislation, consumer credit law, debt enforcement practices and bankruptcy.
Demonstrated ability to act as an advocate and negotiate on behalf of the client.
Through prior experience you can demonstrate your ability to apply your counselling skills to conversations with clients.
Advanced computer skills with word processing, assessing emails and internet.
