The Education Portfolio is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice President who leads the planning and implementation of the University’s strategies related to RMIT’s academic programs and the RMIT student experience. The Portfolio is responsible for services to support the quality of RMIT programs, including the professional development of academic staff, continuous improvement of the student experience, learning and teaching outcomes and the management of learning and research information sources.
The Education Portfolio plays a key role in empowering students to access education, participate actively in the life of the University and achieve successful and fulfilling lives beyond graduation. The provision of a stimulating and satisfying experience for students is a priority for the University.
The Role and Your Responsibilities
The focus of the Careers Consultant is the delivery of professional, proactive careers counselling and career development services to support a diverse student population and RMIT’s strategic direction. Services are delivered face to face, online and in group settings. The position involves close collaboration within a cross disciplinary team and consultation with key stakeholders, particularly the Ngarara Willim Centre for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Students, academic colleges and program areas.
Skills & Experience Required
The successful candidate will provide individual careers counselling and career assessments to students and graduates with complex needs within a dual sector institution (TAFE & Higher Education). You will demonstrate knowledge of the labour market and the TAFE & Higher Education sector and the issues that will impact upon the delivery and development of careers education and employment services to students and graduates.
Key to this role will be your ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop, plan, organise, coordinate and deliver innovative careers events, workshops and programs to support students’ career development needs in both the face to face and online environments. Highly developed and confident communication skills will see you liaise with employers, as appropriate, to build links with the RMIT community that support student career learning outcomes and enhance graduate opportunities. Relevant work experience within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community either within education or a similar environment would be advantageous.
You will have:
An undergraduate degree and post graduate qualifications in Careers Education (professional careers qualification recognised by the Career Industry Council of Australia).
Tertiary teaching/ teaching qualification or Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment will be highly regarded.
Please note that this role will require satisfactory confirmation of a Working with Children Check.
