Who You Are

You apply these principles to all parts of science and engineering and are excited to operate at the forefront of technology development.
You are an expert in your field and are ready to jump headfirst into the strange world of quantum sensing.
It's ok if you don't have all the skills yet to build a quantum sensor, because you want to work with a global team of experts to fill in the gaps.
You may have come from a large corporation or be fresh out of university but the idea of working in a fast-paced, highly iterative, and integrated team is exciting.
Your role
Working hand in hand with a cross-functional team, you'll be responsible for driving and managing a research and development program in our lab.
This is an exceptionally hands-on role requiring a broad skill set, including the design, integration, and operation of atomic quantum sensors.
(These things are being used in the field, and we are moving fast.
)
You will be responsible for and deeply embedded in the end-to-end development and deployment of our sensors and will be engaged daily in tasks like:
Provide technical guidance and directions to a team of physicists and engineersDesigning and prototyping optical, mechanical and electronics subsystemsOptimization and ruggedization of atomic sensors for practical applicationsAtomic sensor integration, optimization and deployment in real-world environments
Requirements
It's not about specifically where you have come from nor what qualifications you have.
What truly matters is that you are an impossibly fast learner and can demonstrate the following skillset:
PhD in atomic, molecular or quantum physics, and 3+ years of related academic or industry experienceFamiliarity with laser spectroscopy, laser-cooling and atom interferometry of atomic speciesAptitude towards programming and automation.
Competence with Python for lab instrumentation, control systems and data analysis is preferredExpertise with ultra-high vacuum systemsNarrow linewidth lasers and frequency stabilizationExcellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environmentStrong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsThe ability to acquire within a reasonable timeframe the appropriate Australian government security clearance level is preferred.
The role is full-time and based in Melbourne, Australia.
