About the roleThe position is a leadership role in the National School of Medicine (SoM) and reports to the Deputy National Head of School, Sydney.
The role is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Clinical Years in the Sydney Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, supporting the consistent delivery of the Clinical Years of the MD program, including specific management oversight of the Clinical Schools associated with the Sydney Campus and facilitating effective collaboration of Clinical Schools of the Sydney MD program.
Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinate the consistent delivery of the MD program curriculum for Year 3 and 4 (Clinical Years) in conjunction with the Heads of Clinical Schools, working closely with the National Head of Medical Education and Innovation.Facilitate clinical schools participation in evaluation and ongoing improvement of the MD program curriculum in collaboration with relevant School staff.Provide leadership and manage the day-to-day operational matters of the Clinical Schools, including:academic and administrative staff matters, including adjunct appointments;negotiating contracts and agreements as required;developing operational budgets;stakeholder consultation and liaison;negotiating and coordinating clinical placements;sustained contribution to the professional development of other staff, evidenced through ongoing leadership in peer review and mentorship.Manage the student allocation to Clinical Schools for Years 3 and 4 with the Clinical Placements Coordinator and elective learning period placements.Coordinate Clinical School participation in quality processes and liaise with relevant health department, Governments, and private jurisdictions.Provide support in student matters, pastoral care and monitoring academic progress; and facilitating student access to university services in conjunction with Head of Student Matters.Chair the Heads of Clinical School Committee, and is a member of the School Executive committee and other committees and working groups as required.Contribute to the governance, management and leadership of the School.Ensure significant external engagement with the community and discipline/profession.Other duties as directed by the Deputy National Head of School, Sydney and National Head of School.Qualifications, skills & experiencePossession of a medical qualification registrable with AHPRA and either:a PhD or a Fellowship of a relevant professional body; ora Masters level qualification in a relevant field with at least 5 years teaching experience in the Higher Education Sector.Demonstrated experience in medical education, clinical practice and negotiating with health services.Experience of managing teams within complex organisational structures.Demonstrated experience of a high level of pastoral care to students.Strong people management, excellent communication and influencing skills.Able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.Ability to assess priority of tasks, manage workload and meet deadlines in a busy education environment.Computer literacy with standard office programs and use of relevant digital technology.BenefitsFast paced environment with opportunity for professional growthGenerous training and development opportunitiesFriendly and collaborative working environmentHow to applyPlease apply online with a resume and cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.
