It reports to the Chief Information Officer, with a "dotted line" reporting arrangement to TEQSA's Chief Security Officer as part of whole of agency security oversight arrangements.
The Assistant Director, IT Security is responsible for preventing and responding to cyber threats in an effective and efficient manner, and ensuring the integrity and reliability of TEQSA's systems, processes and frameworks. They will develop and maintain cyber security controls, manage cyber security projects, and contribute cyber security expertise and input to broader projects at the agency. They will also be responsible for providing leadership, mentoring and support to other members of the IT and Business Solutions Team, to ensure a collaborative and coordinated approach to cyber security.
Duties As Assistant Director, IT Security, under broad direction, you will be accountable for:
Providing practical and technically sound advice on cyber security plans, strategies and controls, to support the ongoing improvement of TEQSA's approach to cyber security.Assessing cyber security risks in TEQSA's systems, programs and applications, and working with the ICT and Business Solutions Team (and where relevant, TEQSA suppliers other TEQSA staff) to develop and implement effective controls to address these risks.Monitoring systems and alerts for cyber security risks, threats, incidents and vulnerabilities, and leading responses to address these where they arise.Preparing advice and reports on security vulnerabilities, incidents, plans, and controls, including reports for the Australian Cyber Security Centre, the Department of Home Affairs, and TEQSA's Security Committee, Chief Security Officer, Executive Leadership Team, and Accountable Authority.Positively influencing TEQSA's security culture including developing and publishing security awareness material, providing relevant input on other agency policies and procedures, and developing and delivering security awareness training.Building and sustaining productive and influential relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to facilitate cooperation, ensure high quality support and services are delivered, and future needs addressed.TEQSA is looking for high-performing team members who are passionate about contributing to the excellence of Australian higher education. Have a strong knowledge and understanding of frameworks and standards relevant to cyber security, including the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM).Have an in-depth knowledge of technology, systems and applications, including Azure/M365, Intune (MEM), Microsoft core workstation/server applications, network and firewall devices, Splunk and Azure reporting tools.Have demonstrated capability to develop and implement effective cyber security controls, both individually and as part of a broader team.Have experience in, or a sound understanding of, project management principles and approaches relevant to cyber security, including the management of cyber security issues in broader projects.Possess high-level communication and relationship management skills, and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain mutually beneficial professional relationships with stakeholders and influence, negotiate and achieve outcomes, often within tight timeframes.Make balanced decisions and uses professional judgement to analyse and solve complex problems, influence decision makers, and manage identified risks associated with IT and cyber security.Qualifications and experience The following will be highly valued:
Relevant qualifications or certifications in IT security, such as the Diploma in Government (Security), Certified IT Security Manger (CISM), Certified in Risk and Information Security Control (CRISC), and/or Infosec Registered Assessor Program (IRAP).A background in IT, and/or systems' maintenance and support would complement the skills and experience required for role.The successful applicant must:
be an Australian citizen.complete a National Police Check satisfactorily.be able to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) clearance to Negative Vetting Level 1 status, supported by TEQSA.
