Teaching - Early Childhood (Education & Training)
To manage and maintain the operation of the service, ensuring the provision of quality Early Childhood development. This position is responsible for meeting these objectives and demonstrating this.
Main tasks and Core objectives include:
Management To manage the centre in accordance with the philosophy, goals, aims and objectives. To manage the centre in accordance with State and Commonwealth Regulations and the Accreditation System. To establish and maintain good communication and a positive working relationship with the Directors and team. To respect and maintain confidentiality regarding the management of teams, the operation of the centre and the parents and children at all times. To attend any external meetings that are deemed relevant and to distribute any information to the board (and other staff, where appropriate). To manage and organise students on placements with Recognised Training Organisations in conjunction with team leaders. End of week email to update on centre activities to Head Office. Attend meetings with Head Office. Liaise with the Head Office when deemed necessary. Family/Client Service To consult and liaise with parents on centre philosophy, policies and procedures. To support parents with questions and/or concerns in person, writing, telephone and/or email. To show prospective families through the service in a professional and welcoming way. To encourage parent participation in special events and service operations (e.g., Parent Night, Accreditation Meetings, specific topic presentation nights, occupation week, etc.). To maintain the waiting list, offer new positions as they arise and answer enquiries regarding bookings. Employment Relations To manage the screening, interviewing and observation (through trial) of potential new staff. To manage the orientation of new staff in current centre practices, guidelines, philosophy, policies and procedures. To liaise with, mentor, counsel and coach current staff in need. To develop and foster a positive and supportive team, giving clear leadership and direction to staff. To be aware of and promote in-service and professional development training for staff. To organise and prepare staff rosters. To take responsibility for staff illness phone calls, outside of contact hours. To prepare meeting agendas, conduct staff and Accreditation meetings and complete and disperse meeting minutes to relevant parties. To provide regular feedback to Head Office regarding occurrences within the centre. To oversee and ensure that staff keep and maintain written records in relation to each child as required by the centre. To network and liaise with other campus directors. To ensure regular staff appraisals are completed (annually). To issue warnings and dismissals (Fair Work Act) but to ensure this is reported to Head Office prior to issuing these. Children's Programs To ensure the delivery of the children's program is in accordance with the service's philosophy, goals, aims, objectives, policies and procedures. To oversee, advise and support staff in the implementation of the programs, ensuring that all individual children's needs are met. This is to be done in collaboration with the Educational Leader. To regularly inspect that staff are up to date with the record keeping and monitoring of individual children's progress and development. To regularly check and remind staff to be up to date with written records in relation to individual children based on the regulatory requirements (e.g., medication, accident and illness records, sign in/out books, etc.). To liaise with the educational leader regularly. To ensure QIP and framework are of above regulated standards. Service To monitor and evaluate the centre operations at regular intervals in consultation with the Director. To identify and recommend needs and required changes to the centre in consultation with the Director. To review and develop centre policies and procedures in consultation with stakeholders and recognised authorities. To review and develop current practices and handbooks in response to current industry standards and trends. To take on the ongoing responsibility of the accreditation system and be aware of any changes to the process. To be aware of and ensure compliance at all times with the Children's Services Regulations and Children's Services Act. To conduct regular risk assessments in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Standards and remind staff, students, visitors and children of appropriate OH&S techniques. To be aware of and organise regular building and grounds maintenance and essential services as outlined by centre guidelines. To oversee the implementation of the food safety plan, food handling procedures, kitchen cleaning and menu changes. To manage the centre budget as outlined by the Founder. Administration To prepare the annual calendar of events in collaboration with the Educational Leader, staff, families and reputable sources. To organise appropriate excursions in conjunction with the Educational Leader and approved by Head Office. To organise regular and appropriate incursions in conjunction with staff and Head Office. To manage parent accounts, subsidy changes, allowable and approved absences and input new children into the child care management system as well as maintaining any family or child detail changes. To balance at the end of the day with the child care management system and EFTPOS machine. To report childcare availability and usage to appropriate company weekly. To order Art and Craft materials quarterly and for special occasions as required by team leaders (to be approved by Head Office). To order general supplies as required – chemicals, bathroom/laundry needs and ensuring compliance with policies. Timesheet management for Head Office to process pays. Report weekly to board (bills, budget, payroll). Enrolment entry and changes. Authority Authorised to make day to day decisions in the direction and supervision of staff in the centres. Authorised to contact parents in relation to day to day issues with their children. Authorised to counsel staff where required. Authorised to implement routines and planning appropriate for the centre. Authorised to oversee students on placements and complete any required written reports. Experience in planning and implementing an early childhood program. Ability to contribute to the service with initiative and creativity. Ability to be flexible in service delivery. Diploma in Early Childhood/Children's Services or above. Experience Demonstrated management, planning and coordination skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and motivate staff. Experience in staff supervision. Demonstrated leadership skills. Hold 2 plus years experience directing an Early Learning Centre. Knowledge Knowledge of the Children's Services Centre's Regulations. Knowledge of the Quality Improvement and Accreditation system. Customer service focused: committed to providing exceptional customer service across all channels – written, phone and face to face. Communication: the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, varying communication style depending upon the audience. Attention to detail: excellent attention to detail and written skills when communicating with others, both internally and externally. Commerciality: ability to apply knowledge in a practical, commercial manner. Teamwork: willingness to assist and support others as required and get on with team members. Time management/organisation: accomplish objectives effectively within time frame given, and carry out administrative duties within portfolio in an efficient and timely manner.
