SC1 Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and develop support staff within a school setting.
SC2 A sound knowledge of DET operating systems including CASES21 Finance and Administration, SRP, Recruitment On Line, EduPay system/reports and other relevant processes, policies and guidelines.
SC3 High level of written, verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and the experience to engage with a variety of stakeholders.
SC4 Excellent organizational skills, including the capacity to prioritise work flows.
SC5 A sound knowledge of DET financial management legal requirements and practices, and a demonstrated ability to implement and manage processes to embed a strong culture of risk management across the college.
Role
The Assistant Business Manager at Mill Park Secondary College will work with the College Principal, Business Manager and other key members of school staff to support the resourcing and implementation of the school's strategic priorities.
Working with the Business Manager, they will have core responsibilities for ensuring that the school is operating in a way that is in line with key DET values, policies and procedures, is financially sound and sustainable, is proactive in managing risk, and is consistently focused on improving outcomes for students.
They will provide management and support of a team of staff across two campuses.
In conjunction with the Business Manager they will provide clear line-management and ensure that there is an ongoing focus on the development of staff.
This position has been advertised with four weeks annual leave, and as such, attendance is required during school holiday periods.
Mill Park Secondary College values flexible work arrangements and this is negotiable with the Principal upon appointment.
Responsibilities
The key roles of the Business Manager will work closely with the Assistant Business Manager to deliver clear outcomes across a number of key portfolios.
These roles may include but are not limited to: Finance
Manage and direct the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial statements and contribute to the financial decision making of the school.
Prepare funding submissions for the leadership team and school council.
Direct the accounting processes of the school and ensure that all funds, including school investments, are effectively accounted for according to Treasury regulations.
Provide advice to staff on spending against budget in respect to faculties, programs and other school projects.
Administer government grants and other school income.
Manage fund raising activities.
General Administration
Ensure the provision of a range of administrative support functions for the Principal and teaching staff.
Provide administrative support to external service providers as required.
Manage the processing of student admissions, registrations, enrolments and transfers.
Provide required level of administrative support for school events, functions and projects.
Implement induction programs for new staff, volunteers and other workers to the school.
Human Resources
Provide day to day leadership and support of ES staff within the school.
Research, plan and prepare development programs for support staff.
Manage recruitment procedures.
Provide authoritative advice to the leadership team on support structures and work practices.
Assist in the development of work practices that ensure appropriate occupational health and safety standards are maintained.
Manage procedures relating to employee relations issues.
Assist in the development of human resource planning.
Manage School Resources
Coordinate the use and maintenance of school buildings and equipment.
Liaise and negotiate with service providers in respect to the cost and quality of services.
Supervise the delivery of contracted services.
Manage the development and collection of resource material at the school.
Deliver School Services
Ensure that the school has a strategic and well organised approach to publicity, marketing and communications with the broader community.
Manage the design and production of school publications and documents.
Support School Council
Draft reports and make recommendations on operational issues.
Evaluate and report on the operational efficiency of computer systems in production, making recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
Develop techniques and procedures that will affect work practices beyond the work place.
Manage a technical program with a broad scope across the school.
Other duties as required by the Principal.
