APS role for individuals with qualifications in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Studies or Computer Science

Your new company
This high-profile Government Department known for improving financial and social outcomes within Australia are seeking an experienced APS4 Data Modeller to join their dynamic team for a six-month contract plus extension. This vacancy has become available due to an increase of workload.

Your new role
The role will require the capability to work efficiently within a fast-paced team. Using longitudinal data and predictive analytics, the team will work collaboratively with external consultants and the Australian Government to analyse and interpret actuarial results to support evidence-based policy development. The successful candidate will undertake a range of responsibilities, under limited supervision, including:
Formulating methods and assumptions;
Preparing data and developing detailed spreadsheets;
Developing computer programs;
Liaising with stakeholders, through written and oral channels;
Performing qualitative and quantitative analysis;
Preparing technical briefings and reports; and
Developing, validating and maintaining complex actuarial models

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful for this job opportunity You will also have previous experience in a similar role or have relevant qualifications in the field of: Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or Actuarial studies.

Ideally you will have proven experience in the following:

Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to use one of the well-adopted specialist software packages (SAS, R, STATA or other closely related programming languages) for data analytics or modelling purposes. Prior experience in SAS and predictive analytics will be well-regarded (but not mandatory)A capacity to contribute to wider strategies and initiatives.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and a proven ability to communicate results of data analytics into meaningful and actionable insights for diverse audiences.
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external key stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities and achieve timely results.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment under limited supervision.
A tertiary degree with a major in actuarial studies, statistics, mathematics, finance, computer science, or a closely related discipline which includes a substantial mathematics component.
Experience in model development and related analysis will be regarded favourably.
