The Civil Maritime Sustainment Branch (CMSB) provides the ABF's air and marine surveillance capability within Australia's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). This includes operating a fleet of vessels crewed by ABF officers who perform strategic patrols, tactical surveillance and on-water law enforcement activities within the EEZ. The Branch also manages contracted surveillance aircraft, satellite, sensor systems and logistics support to civil maritime operations.
CMSB operates in a complex, challenging and changing environment that is characterised by a high tempo of civil maritime operations.
The Ship Manager is part of the Large Hull and Small Vessel In-Service Support Section in the CMSB. This section provides the In-Service Support (ISS) arrangements for all Large Hull and Small Vessels as part of the Australian Border Force (ABF) fleet, delivered through sustainment contractors.
The work includes managing in-service support arrangements for eight Cape Class Patrol Boats vessels, four large hull vessels and 33 small vessels provided through complex contractual arrangements and contributing to a range of briefings given the high profile nature of the fleet.
The Ship Manager is responsible for the technical management of the Fleet, and contributes to the safe, efficient and economic performance of the boats.
We are seeking proactive, self-motivated candidates with excellent technical knowledge and experience who can work effectively with limited day to day direction to achieve expected results. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate sound understanding, critical analysis and reasoning skills in identifying and addressing complex and/or sensitive issues. They will bring effective leadership qualities, planning and prioritisation skills to ensure all required maintenance activity is conducted to the standard required by the ABF, appropriate certification is sustained and all vessels are adequately stocked with critical spare parts ensuring operational readiness.
The successful candidate will possess strong and professional communication and stakeholder management capabilities to build and maintain effective relationships with partners, stakeholders and clients. They will have the ability to provide clear and accurate advice, and problem resolution skills to support complex contract matters.
Duties and Responsibilities Ensures all survey and audit requirements are met and that strategies are in place for maintaining appropriate certification.Ensuring depot level maintenance, intermediate level maintenance and corrective maintenance are undertaken to the standard required by the ABF.Providing technical and operational support and guidance to the Fleet.Arrange attendance of service engineers and contractors where required.Consult with manufacturers for specialist advice and guidance where required.Ensure all statutory and class certification remains valid and compliance with relevant industry standards is maintained.Monitoring vessel planned maintenance and ensure actions are taken.Ensure vessels maintain adequate stocks of critical spare parts on-board.Communicate with stakeholders impartially and professionally, providing accurate information, flexible advice and problem solving for complex contract matters.Role Requirements The occupant is required to have or be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline National Security Clearance and pass an Employment Suitability Check.The Ship Manager must be appropriately trained, qualified and experienced to manage In-Service Support for the vessels to which they are assigned.The Ship Manager will show sound understanding, critical analysis and reasoning skills in identifying and addressing complex and/or sensitive issues.The Ship Manager can build and maintain effective relationships and be able to work cooperatively with partners, stakeholders and clients.Qualifications Mandatory Minimum 3 years' experience in a marine engineering or in a ship management position, or equivalent.Knowledge or demonstrated ability to quickly develop an understanding of the technical operations of equipment and systems of Large & Small Vessels.Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.Experience in complex, high risk-high value contract management would be highly regarded.Experience in a relevant operational context. #J-18808-Ljbffr
